Mary Ann Boyd Vivion, departed this life Friday, December 21, 2018. She was born December 9, 1928 to Sue Buren and Grover Boyd and was the member of a pioneer ranching family in Calhoun County and was also a rancher. She descended from Sylvanus Hatch, who was with Stephen F. Austin when Texas became a colony. She was a cousin to Joanna Troutman who made the Texas flag that flew at Fannin. Mary Ann was very proud of her Texas heritage and raised her children to be equally proud.
She was the widow of Wesley T. Vivion Jr. of Victoria, long time rancher who died April 30th, 1993. She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Justin Thomas Pitts, and three great grand children, Ella, Jaxson and Grayson Schumacher. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Grover “Dode” Boyd and James William Boyd and one sister, Estelle Hanna.
She is survived by two daughters, Jane Vivion and Sue Ann Pitts (Jack) and son, Wesley Thomas Vivion (Barbara) and four grandchildren Wesley Tilden Vivion III (Amy), Sarita Jane Vivion Schumacher (Tucker), Jack Martin Pitts and Sarah Melita Pitts and five great grandchildren.
Mary Ann, a long time member of Saint Mary’s Church, dedicated many hours to the Altar Society and Saint Mary’s Quilters. She served as president of Nazareth Academy’s PTA for many years. She was a member of the Mayflower Society and Texas First Families.
Mary Ann was known across South Texas as a fabulous cook. She was well known for her hot rolls, cobblers, cinnamon rolls and coffee cakes. The ranch hands always enjoyed eating at her table when working at the ranch.
She helped her children, grand children and many other children with their show steers, pen of heifers and record books. At TYRA rodeos Mary Ann chauffeured many a child to Mass on Sundays.
A rosary will begin at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, December 27th and visitation to follow until 7:30 p.m. at Rosewood Funeral Chapel. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, December 28th at 2:00 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be W.T. Vivion, Martin Pitts, Tucker Schumacher, Jim Kolle, Thad Moore and Richard Moore. Honorary Pallbearers Sarita Schumacher, Melita Pitts, Sarah Kay Lyne and George Pickering.
Memorials may be made to Saint Mary’s Building fund or the donor’s choice. The family would like to thank the following for the loving care given to Mary Ann: The staff at Elmcroft, Dr. Llompart-Zeno, Dr. John McNeil, Daniel Squyres NP and Hospice of South Texas.
