Peggy graduated from Conroe High School in 1950, where she was a twirler, a Football Sweetheart, and played volleyball. She married Ben P. Nutter on August 31, 1951, in his parents' backyard in Conroe, Texas, under two magnolia trees. Peggy was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and housewife.
Known affectionately as the "plant doctor," Peggy worked in her yard almost every day. She loved playing golf, reading, playing bridge, painting, and doing crafts. She also landscaped the entrance to Colony Creek Country Club and some areas of the golf course when she lived in the neighborhood.
Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Ben P. Nutter; her father, Carl Barton; her mother, Naomi Mary Smith Barton; her sister, Faye Sheppard; her sister, Jo Hatcher; her brother, Pete Barton; her brother, Conrad Barton; and her brother, Carl Barton.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Sue Nutter Torreyson; her son, Wayne Nutter, and his wife, Catherine; her son, Ben E. Nutter; her granddaughter, Natalie Pullin; her granddaughter, Kathy Burnett, and her husband, Justin; her granddaughter, Kendra Nutter; her grandson, Kyle Nutter; and five great-grandchildren. Peggy also leaves behind numerous extended family members, all of whom will cherish her memory.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, located at 3304 E Mockingbird Lane, Victoria, Texas, 77904. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 pm.
