I found out recently about the passing of Randal Lau and would like to express my sincerest sympathies on behalf of THE WFA GROUP to his family and associates at NewFirst National Bank.
We have assisted Randal thru the years with our services and it was indeed a pleasure to work with him.He was a man of his word and integrity and will be missed by everyone who knew him.

A Tribute to Randal Lau

Randal Lau was a true friend, a true gentleman. A man among men, as big and tall and stout as a south Texas lighthouse; a steady beacon from the day I met him till the day he died. Randal Lau was an unassuming role model, the best kind of friend, a good man who had an amazingly positive impact on my life. Randal Lau was a man dearly beloved and truly admired by his family, friends, co-workers--most everyone who enjoyed the privilege of spending time with him.

Randal Lau had a presence; he'd fill up a doorway with his tan, square-jawed, handsome self and then put you at ease with his kind smile and hearty laugh. But don't kid yourself, at left tackle for the St. Joseph Flyers, Randal Ram Lau was a raw-boned bulldozer and tough as a pair of his old Red Wing boots. I was always glad to be running behind big #74 and not into him!

But yank those pads and helmet off and the boy was as sweet as dewberry pie. And believe you me, Randal Lau knew where, and how, to find some fun. Dance halls and road trips, dove hunts and barbecues, showing steers and chasing girls, hauling hay and driving to Port A. We somehow managed to make our grades, but the STJ Class of '80, our band of fun-loving Flyers, along with a whole slew of VHS Stings and Stroman Raiders, we covered a lot of Coastal Bend in hot pursuit of lessons Sister Ernestine and Mr. Pozzi and Coach Tib weren't teaching in the textbooks.

After college, with family and careers on the front burner, Randal and I would see each other as often as responsibilities permitted. In spite of the long gaps, I always knew where he was and who he wasRandal Lau was TCB (taking care of business)at home, at work, at the parish, at the school, at the fat stock show, coaching his sons, fishing on the bay or building his fine farm out on Salem Road. I could actually see Randal, in my mind's eye, and because he was always there for me, for you, for all of us; all was right with the world.
 
Randal Lau was successful; the President of NewFirst National Bank and a community leader in word, deed and reputation. Randal was an intelligent, intuitive, hard-working banker. It was no accident that he was so well respected, so adept at his chosen vocation. He understood that the core value of community banking is helping people. I got the feeling that Randal genuinely enjoyed helping people realize their dreams, even when they didn't work out exactly as planned.

Randal Lau was a man of faith; a good Catholic in every sense of that phrase; a true believer in times when believing in God, in going to Heaven, and living by the Golden Rule aren't necessarily in style. Randal had his priorities straight and made no apologies for putting family first. He loved his family: his parents, his wife, his three fine boys, his sisters, his in-laws; everyone. He wrapped his long arms around them all and they knew they were loved and protected, ready to face any storm.

Randal Lau was ready. I learned a lot from the man after he was diagnosed. He shook his head in amazement, but didn't complain. He processed, prioritized, and got his affairs in order. With the constant care and love of a family who clearly adored him, Randal made the most of every last hour; the essence of responsibility in every way.
 
I love thinking about Randal. I can feel his firm handshake. I'll never forget our friendship as long as I live. He taught me how to be a good man, a better man, without even thinking about it. He's gone too soon, that's for damn sure. But I know he taught his sons well, and I know they'll take good care of their sweet mother, and Jill will take good care of Will and Luke and Jack.
Randal Lau is sorely missed, but never forgotten. I'll take his friendship to my own grave and take comfort in knowing this: Randal's saving me a seat on a big square bale of Mission Valley hay.

Randal and I graduated high school in 1980 from different schools in Victoria. It was a joy to see St. Joseph High School join together with Victoria High School by such great friends as Randal. Like many others, I have fond memories of those years! 
I'm so sorry to hear that Randal had cancer. It's something I'm dealing with too, and I know how difficult it can be for the family, as well as the one who suffers with it.

I consider it a privilege and an honor to have been able to share time with Randal over the years as our sons grew up together. He was a man of great integrity, compassion, courage and always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved his family, his friends, his co-workers, the great outdoors and the community he lived and worked in. I worked with Randall years ago...one of the best men in banking.  My heart is heavy knowing that Randall is gone but also happy that he is with the angels and no longer in pain.  RIP Randall Lau...you will be missed by many.  Sending all my love and condolences to the family.
