Rex Alton Knopp of Inez went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 5, 2021 at the age of 60. He was born on February 8, 1960 in Victoria, TX to the late Alton Knopp and Joyce Munson Knopp. He grew up in Edna, Texas and graduated from Edna High School. He later settled in Inez, Texas after he married his wife, Sarah, on November 2nd, 1991. Rex was a technologist/operator at Dow and retired after 20 plus years with the company. He spent his retired life making unforgettable memories with his family and friends and starting Bar K Pasture Works with his youngest son, Will. He loved every minute of building fence with his son Will and brother Dick and was so proud to work by their side every day.
Rex was an active member of the community and was always around to lend a helping hand to anyone or any organization that needed it. He was a member of the Booster club for many years, enjoyed coaching all of his boys’ Little League baseball and Pee Wee football teams, was superintendent for the Victoria Livestock show as his boys raised pigs and then many years after they graduated, was an involved member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Inez, and he cherished the memories and relationships he made while serving on the Grace Journey retreats.
Rex was a huge sports fan. From coaching his children on the field to watching his grandchildren from the side lines, he never missed a game or the chance to share his love of the game with anyone. He was so proud to watch his children grow up and build families of their own, and he was even more proud to watch his grandkids grow and succeed in everything they put their mind to.
Rex was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was the true definition of a people person. He devoted his life to his family and friends and lived everyday with so many people by his side who truly feel blessed to have known him. Anyone who knew him, was lucky to know him and be loved by him. He did not meet a stranger, which was evident when out and about with him. There was never a time he went somewhere without someone finding him and coming to talk. A true testament to the great man and friend he was to so many. He was the best at always going out of his way to make others feel special any time he saw them, even if that was through picking and poking or giving out one of his famous nicknames. He had the kindest heart and most infectious smile and laugh that never failed to brighten the day of whoever he was around. Rex loved kids and had a remarkable way of creating a special bond with each and every little one he met. He adopted many kids and grandkids as his own. He was known as “Papa Rex” to not only his grandchildren, but many others as well. He also considered his river crew and Christmas crew as family and loved every chance he had to get together, cook, watch the kids play, and play dominoes. Those memories will be cherished forever. We know he will have his hands full keeping up with all who knew him as “Papa Rex” and wrapping his arms around those he cared so deeply about.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Shores Knopp of Inez; daughter Alexandrina “Drina” Knopp (Allen) of Edna; sons, Kody Watkins (Sherry) of Hawaii, Ryan Watkins (Veronica) of Virginia, Kristofer Knopp (Brian) of Austin and Will Knopp (Haley) of Edna; sister Karen Castellow of Huffman, TX; brother, Dick Knopp of Edna; ten grandchildren, Katie, Isabella, Gabriel, Kellan, Brody, Rhys, Mac, Lennox, Faith, and Grace; and multiple nieces and nephews.
In honor of Rex, let’s all crack open a Coors Light and raise a toast to our beloved friend. It’s what he would want us to do.
A visitation will be held from 5- 7 pm Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel. A memorial service celebration of Rex’s life will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Inez with Rev. Tim Williams officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your choice of charity in memory of Rex Knopp.
