Robert Kent Goodnow

Robert Kent Goodnow of Georgetown, Texas died on July 22, 2012 in Victoria, Texas at the age of 83. Born September 7, 1928 in Nampa, Idaho, he and his family moved to Wollaston, Massachusetts when he was 12.

Bob attended Eastern Nazarene College before enlisting in the Army during the Korean War, and he was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso. He completed a Bachelor's Degree at Texas Western College in El Paso, and a Master's Degree at the University of Texas in Austin. He worked for 30 years as a research scientist for Applied Research Laboratories at the University of Texas.

He volunteered with the Austin Police Monitors and was a committed donor with the Austin Blood Bank where he donated almost 13 gallons of blood over 40 years. He enjoyed reading, travelling with and spending time with his family, woodworking, doing projects around his house, creating gadgets for the home, and playing bridge. He loved being Grandpa to his two grandchildren. While living in Georgetown he enjoyed drinking coffee and smoking cigars with his friends at Cianfrani Coffee Company several times a week.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father, Edith and Kent Goodnow, and his step-mother, Margaret Goodnow.

He is survived by his daughters, Alison Goodnow of Pflugerville and Maureen Sharp and husband Jarrell of Victoria; two grandchildren, Christopher Sharp and wife, Alyssa, of Overland Park, Kansas and Elizabeth Sharp of Victoria, Texas; and the mother of his children, Eileen Goodnow of Austin.

He is also survived by his two sisters and their husbands, Margaret and Chuck Howard of Ashland, Ohio and Beth and Bob Merki of Franklin, Tennessee, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 11 at 11 a.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral home at 6100 N. Lamar Blvd. in Austin. Interment will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
