Sandra Lynn (Schulte) Gillett, 79, of Gonzales, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026. She was born on November 28, 1946, in Hallettsville, to Forrest James and Loucile Mary Schulte. Sandie married her college sweetheart, Walter Stewart Gillett III, in Palacios on January 18, 1969. Stewart and Sandie were married for 50 years before Stewart’s passing in 2020.
Sandie and Stewart were devoted members of the Catholic Community in Victoria. They began attending Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church just after they married. Later, they moved to Holy Family Catholic Church as the Catholic community grew and the new church was built. Sandie served on the Altar Society and was a member of Catholic Daughters of America. She loved her church family and enjoyed the fellowship this provided her over the years.
As a young lady, Sandie attended Wharton County Junior College and earned her associate's degree in accounting. She went to work for Alcoa and later transferred with their oil and gas division to Formosa Plastics, where she worked for many years.
While raising their family, Sandie and Stewart developed a love for camping. They loaded up the kids and traveled to numerous spots to enjoy getaways. Some of their children's best memories are from the camping adventures they shared when they were children. Sandie was an avid reader and passed this love on to her granddaughter. They would often discuss how many books they could read in a short period, comparing notes. Another place where Sandie’s influence is still felt today is in her cooking and baking. Her daughter Stephanie and her daughter-in-law, Katherine, still make many of her recipes today, some of which were passed down from Sandie’s own grandmother. Her grandchildren developed a love for baking as well. Nana was never too busy to let them help her out in the kitchen. Those precious times will forever live in their hearts.
In 2006, Sandie retired from Formosa Plastics and spent the next few years enjoying time with her family in both Texas and Arizona. She spent countless hours playing with her grandchildren, Colden, Dane, Chase, Cortlyn, and Maddie. She particularly loved attending their programs, games, and events and taking part in the elaborate adventures Stephanie and Katherine planned for each child’s birthday. No matter where she had to travel or what silly attire was requested, Nana showed up to support her grandchildren with excitement and love. Over-the-top outfits and silly dances were just a part of the fun. The laughter and love radiating from her face made it clear that this Nana was happiest in the presence of her grandchildren and her children.
Sandie leaves behind a legacy of care, devotion, and love. Her memory will continue to inspire her family, and she will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Sandie is survived by her family, son, Tracy Wayne Gillett, and wife, Katherine, of Gonzales, Texas. Daughter Stephanie Eileen Gomez of Chandler, Arizona. Her five beautiful grandchildren are Thomas Colden Gillett of Gonzales, Texas; Dane Edward Gomez of Ft Myers, FL; Chase Stewart Gomez of Chandler, Arizona; Cortlyn Christine Gillett of Gonzales, Texas; and Madeline Elena Gomez of Chandler, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart Gillett, and her parents, Forrest and Loucile Schulte. Sandie is also survived by her sister, Deborah Schulte Matusek (Laddie), of Edna, Texas, and her brother, Travis Schulte (Annie), of Fort Worth, Texas.
Services celebrating Sandie’s life will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Victoria. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the rosary being recited at 10:30 a.m. Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. A funeral meal will be served at noon; following the meal, we will travel to the Resurrection Cemetery for a 1:30 p.m. service. Family and friends are invited to wear pinks and blues in honor of Sandie’s favorite colors to celebrate her memory.
The family wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude to her dedicated caregivers at the Romberg House in Gonzales, Texas, where she joyfully resided for almost a decade, and of course, to the entire staff of the Avir Nursing Home in Gonzales. Without the care, love, and compassion of these individuals, we would not have been able to navigate this extremely difficult time. We were blessed to know each and every one of you and will always hold you dear in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 704 Mallette Drive, Victoria, TX 77904.
