Tom was born in Kansas City, Missouri on February 17, 1942 and grew up in Bellaire, Texas. He graduated from Bellaire High School in 1960, and Sam Houston State University in 1964 with a Bachelors in Business Administration. He worked for Central Power and Light Company (and later American Electric Power) for 35 years, holding titles of Manager in the Rio Grande Valley; District Auditor, Manager of Support Services, and Manager of Materials and Fleet in Victoria; and finally, Manager of Regional Warehouses in Corpus Christi until his early retirement in 2000.
Throughout his professional career he was an active member of organizations that served the community, including the Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts of America, Rotary, Lions Club, and Kiwanis. His daughters were especially honored when he would bring them, as his guests to the luncheons.
Tom was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, fishing, and gardening. Many fond family memories were built around these hobbies. Camping was truly camping with his young family...in a tent and cooking on a campfire. Tom and Joyce’s camping became “glamping” with a comfortable recreational vehicle, and then more recently, Tom also camped with his brother Bob, each taking their own RVS and Jeeps to camp and sit outside to watch sporting events and enjoy nature.
Fishing was a regular weekend activity and gardening a daily event. There was always fresh fish and vegetables from the garden for everyone to enjoy. Tom enjoyed gardening with his neighbor, Chester, and would often have conversations over the fence with Chester and wife, Bea. They were
kind and generous neighbors.
Tom made many wonderful friends, as well as meeting the love of his life, Joyce, while working at CPL/AEP. Friday night dinner and dominoes were always a fun way to start the weekend and end the workweek.
Tom was a woodworker and photographer, and he was a great handyman and could fix just about anything. He loved attending his children and grandchildren’s’ performances, sporting events and shared his love of everything outdoors with them.
He supported Colin’s Hope, a non-profit organization focused on childhood drowning prevention named in memory of his step-grandson.
