Alfred Paul Edwards was born October 23, 1958, in Los Angeles, CA. He was named “Alfred Paul” because he was conceived in the Atlantic and born in the Pacific. He was born to John Henry Edwards Sr. and Thelma Davis Edwards. Alfred, affectionately known as Paul, was the fifth child of eight. As a child, he loved to eat mud rocks. He was a loveable child, extremely independent, and very intelligent. Paul received his early childhood education at Ascension Catholic School in Los Angeles. He received baptism, First Holy Communion, and confirmation at Ascension Catholic Church. He went to Lynwood High School and graduated in 1976, joining the army thereafter, in the 101st Airborne, where he was honorably discharged. In January 1977, he was united in marriage to Gwen Smith, and they had two children, Olivia and Alfred Paul Edwards II, also known as P2. Paul served 4 years in the army, and then became employed at McDonnel Douglas as a mechanic. After leaving McDonnel Douglas, he began working for Jiffy Lube. In 1985, Paul and Gwen split up. After leaving Jiffy Lube, he started doing carpentry work full time, and that remained his profession for the duration of his years. He was very gifted with his hands, mastering any job or project he encompassed. He later reunited with his childhood girlfriend, Terri Derischebourg, in 1992, and they united in marriage on March 11, 1993. They were married for 22 years, until she passed away December 06, 2014.
Paul had a great sense of humor, all the way up until his passing. He was a sarcastic jokester. He would make you laugh even if you didn’t want to. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, camping, repairing automobiles, and was an excellent cook. He seldomly would visit anyone, but if it’s been too long since he’s seen you, he would call to say that if you didn’t come visit him, he was going to hop in his helicopter and come whoop your -----. That was his way of saying “I miss you.”
In addition to his wife, Paul was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Edwards Sr., mother, Thelma Davis Edwards, sister, Valoree Edwards Grayer, and brother, John Henry Edwards Jr. Paul is survived by his daughter, Olivia Edwards, sons, Alfred Paul Edwards II and Christopher Anthony Edwards, stepchildren, Christian Holloway, Bernie Hernandez, Monique Hernandez, Jeremy Hernandez, Jonathan Hernandez, adopted children, Heather Ritter, Amber Ritter, Christina Gamboa, Jennifer Gamboa, and four siblings, Herbert Lee Edwards, Annette Dianne Avinger, Barry Robin Edwards, and Cathy Michelle Edwards.
His memory will be cherished by an abundance of loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
