November 23, 1946 – April 6, 2019
Our beloved JR, husband for forty years to Yolanda Chavez Campos, stepfather to Tim Ascencio, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away recently on Saturday, April 6, 2019, finally succumbing to a long battle with Alzheimer’s. His smile, friendly personality and hospitable nature will be greatly missed by all whom loved and knew him. JR and Yolanda enjoyed residing in the high desert community of Victorville for over fifteen years.
JR was born to Guadalupe E. Campos and Ignacio O. Campos in Edinburgh, Texas, but spent much of his youth in Norwalk, California along with his eight siblings. The oldest of six sons, JR served as a father figure and true friend to his younger brothers and sister. He was an inspiration to their development and formation. JR graduated from Norwalk High School where he proved to be a superior athlete and remained a life-time sports enthusiast. He later worked diligently to maintain homes in Pico Rivera and Victorville. He liked gardening with his wife and was appreciated and admired as an excellent home-gardener. JR was also outgoing and formed countless friendships.
JR loved his wife, Yolanda, and it was comforting that he was free to pass away in the presence of his wife and in the home he so loved. He is preceded in death by his parents Lupe and Ignacio Campos and his mother and father-in-law Adeline and Tom Chavez, Sr., whom he loved dearly.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Yolanda, stepson, and wife, Tim and Sonia, grandchildren Kayla, Matthew and great-grandchild, Bella; his older sisters, Eleanor Castillo and Anita Vargas, and his younger brothers and sister, Mike Campos, David Campos, Gilbert Campos, Olivia Campos-Bergeron, Roy Campos and Rev. Randy Campos; his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
