Devoted Father, Grandfather, Friend, Corpsman, and Deputy Sheriff
James Allen Greenough age 79 died on Tuesday April 23rd 2024
James was born in Long Beach California on July 7th 1944 to James and Hulda Greenough. He leaves behind a daughter, son in law, two granddaughters as well as two brothers one sister and many many friends. He graduated from Mayfair High School in Lakewood California. Shortly after that he joined the United States Navy where he went into basic hospital school in August of 1965. Then field medical service school in 1966. He served in Vietnam with two Marine rifle companies as a senior corpsman. The first company he served with was G/2/26 5th Marine Division. His second company was First battalion 4th Marine division. During his time in Vietnam, he saved many lives but never spoke of the lives saved only the lives that were lost. He was truly an American Hero but never thought of himself as a hero. Because of his courageous efforts in Vietnam, he was awarded the purple heart and the bronze star with Valor. After Vietnam he continued his service in the Navy reserves in special boat unit 13. He also joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He retired from the sheriff’s department after 36 years of service. He was a man devoted to the service to others. Even after he retired, he continued to service the Lord and his community here in Chino Valley. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
