It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Leopoldo Torres of Crestline, California, on February 27, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on February 20, 1943, in El Paso, Texas, Leo was known as a humble individual, devoted father, supportive grandfather and proud veteran whose unwavering love for family and country touched everyone fortunate to have known him.
Leo will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and his loyal cat Sergeant. He is survived by his five children: Malizza (Alfred) Torres, Leopoldo (Mercy) Torres Jr, Leonardo (Alberta) Torres, Marcella Eva (Scott) Yost and Veronica (Joaquin) Torres. Leo’s legacy continues through his 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also remembered by Esmeralda Diaz de Tuesta, mother to his four older children, and Debra Torres, mother to his youngest daughter. His memory is cherished by his six brothers, one sister, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In Leo’s younger years, he was an avid outdoorsman, proud and honorable member of the armed forces serving in the United States Air Force from 1964 through 1984. After active duty, Leo continued his dedication in civil service until he retired at the age of 55 as Chief of Maintenance from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Washington.
Leo spent his retirement years enjoying family and traveling – taking trips with his children and creating cherished memories to places like the Grand Canyon, Washington DC, Wyoming. In 2015, Leo purchased a cabin in Crestline, California and made the San Bernardino mountains his new home. He found peace within the pines, happiness in the company of the wildlife, and joy from his cabin - even during the winters when the snow kept him on "guard duty".
Leo’s absence leaves an irreplaceable void, but he will be lovingly remembered, honored for his service, and held in his family’s hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any veteran organization in honor of Leopoldo Torres’ memory.
