Loseli Raass was born on April 21, 1941, in Ofu, Vava’u in the Tongan Islands. She shared a special bond with her father, John E. Raass, and carried the memory of her beloved mother, Melepo'uli Keti, who passed away when Loseli was still young. Though she never married, Loseli was surrounded by a large and loving extended family spread across the South Pacific and the United States.
A devoted Catholic, Loseli dedicated her life to her faith and her church. She lovingly served and cared for two priests who became like family to her. Her commitment to her parish communities was unwavering, and she contributed countless hours of service to several Catholic churches throughout the High Desert, including St. Junipero Serra.
Loseli was known for her many gifts. She was an exceptional cook and gardener, an expert Tongan dancer, and someone with a clever mind and a knack for many undertakings. Her laughter was infectious, and her generous spirit made her a cherished friend to many throughout the High Desert community. She was also known for hosting unforgettable parties and luaus—events filled with warmth, joy, music, and the spirit of togetherness she embodied so well.
Loseli’s kindness, hard work, and bright presence touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those who were blessed to share in her life.
