Michael Roy Vice

Mike graduated from Sowela in 1976 in aviation maintenance, but never followed this path as it would have required relocation. In the mid 1980s he stumbled upon M.O.V. repair work while working as an electrician at Plant Specialties in Sulphur, La., and never looked back. His career as a M.O.V. repair technician continued with a few other companies in the Lake Area over the next 30 years. During that time Mike met a lot of new friends and colleagues. Most people say he was the best they had ever seen in his field.

When Mike wasn’t at work or interrupted by a 2 a.m. or weekend callout, his favorite pastime was fishing and relaxing the day away in his boat. If you were one of the lucky ones that got to go on a fishing trip with him; you soon realized that fishing was second to relaxing in the boat. The one thing that most brightened his day was when he got to enjoy the company of his family, especially around birthdays or the holidays.

Mike was a loving husband, father and pawpaw anyone would admire. He touched many lives with his huge heart, compassion for others and his many sacrifices throughout his life. He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Ann Vice; five children, Stephanie Denise Vincent and husband James, Michael Shane Vice and wife Courtney, Joshua Paul Vice, Christopher Isaac Alexander and Joseph Paul Leger and wife Ashlee; six grandchildren, Tyler, Gabby, Haley, Michael, Allie and Zach; a brother, Clarence J. Vice Jr. and wife Charlotte; a sister, Glynda Stanley; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence J. Vice Sr. and Melba Joyce Reed.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at Hixson Funeral Home in Vinton with Pastor Carl Rowell. Burial will follow in Reed Cemetery in Vinton. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
