Pete was born on December 8, 1926 in Oakdale, Louisiana to Eugene and Laura Johnson Peters. He proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Artie Elaine Parker on June 19, 1950. They moved to Angleton, Texas in 1951 where they would settle down and begin their family. He went to work for the Texas Highway Department as a bridge tender, and retired in 1985. After retiring, they moved to Starks, Louisiana, where they made a home that the entire family loves to visit. He and Elaine were married for 64 years, and during that time, they enjoyed growing their family and serving others. When he was called to be with God, he was still being loved by his wife, Elaine, daughters, Rickie Peters of Houston, Texas, Sandra Ashworth and husband, Dexter of Starks, and Pamela Gough and husband, Dennis of Mobile, Alabama; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is now in fellowship with those that were called home before him: his son, Robert "Bob" Peters; grandsons, Dexter "Killer" Ashworth II, Dennis "Trey" Gough III; father, Eugene Peters; mother and step-father, Laura and Frederick Welke; and his brother, Tommy Peters.
He was an active member of the Masons Grand Lodge of Louisiana Vinton Lodge #364, Shriners International, VFW Post #9854, and Scottish Rites of Freemasonry 32nd Degree. "Pete" as he was known by most, was a loving husband, guiding father, pillar of his family and truly enjoyed visiting with and helping others. Through all that he saw in his life, he remained the consummate Patriarch and always loved his family and he never met a stranger.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 9, in First Baptist Church of Vinton. The Rev. Ron Butler will officiate. Burial will be in Cryer Cemetery in Oakdale under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Sunday 3-9 p.m. and will resume on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service in the church.
