We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Doris Cellie Miller, who left this world on July 24, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on June 9, 1937, in Weldon, North Carolina, Doris was a vibrant woman whose spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.
Doris was blessed to be the daughter of Ralph and Ruby Hamill, who instilled in her the values of kindness, resilience, and unwavering love for family. She carried these values throughout her life, building her own family with grace and tenacity.
On October 1, 1955, Doris married the love of her life, Joesph Charles Miller, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Norfolk, Virginia. Their union lasted for 53 beautiful years, filled with love and laughter, until Joesph’s peaceful passing in 2008. Together, they created a nurturing home and raised three beautiful daughters: Theresa Davis (with her husband, Mike Davis), Maureen Larrabee (with her husband, Raymond Larrabee), and Judy Starling. Doris cherished her role as a mother, always providing unwavering support and encouragement to her children.
Doris was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Joseph, her beloved son Joseph Miller Jr. (affectionately known as "Joey"), her dear sister Shirley Rogerson, her generous son-in-law Michael Starling, and her IT genius grandson Michael Starling Jr. ("Mikey"). Their absence in her life was profound, yet she continued to embody strength and love for her remaining family.
Doris is survived by her loving daughters, her cherished grandchildren—Lonnie Widing, Cheryl Larrabee, Nathan Widing, Cristie Key, Brian Larrabee, Jackie Miller, and Jamie Miller—and her great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy: Trevor Larrabee, Autumn Larrabee, Jared Widing, Andrew Cordel, Matthew Key, Briley Widing, and Mackenzie Miller. Furthermore, she was a proud great-great-grandmother to Jordan Larrabee and Kelly Widing.
An avid bowler for over 35 years, Doris took great pleasure in her passion, serving as President of many bowling leagues at AMF Military. Her feisty demeanor and vibrant personality made her a beloved figure in the community; she was known for her friendly nature and her ability to make friends wherever she went.
Doris lived life to the fullest, and her legacy will live on through her family and friends who will forever cherish the memories of her warmth, laughter, and love.
The family will receive from 6:00-8:00 pm, on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, located at 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm, on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Princess Anne Memorial Park, 1110 N. Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23454.
Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to our family, friends, and dear neighbors for their love and support during this difficult time. Doris will be remembered not only for her indomitable spirit but also for the countless lives she touched. We take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her loved ones in eternal peace.
