Currituck – Edward Burnice Nelson, 88, passed on to be with the Lord on August 21, 2010 in his residence surrounded by his loving daughters. He was a native of Pitt County, NC, and was the son of the late William and Lemmie Nelson, and the beloved husband of the late Mavis Nelson.
Mr. Nelson proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He continued his career and service working for the U.S. Navy Civil Service, Norfolk, VA, retiring after more than 35 years.
He is survived by his two daughters, Phyllis Kohler and her husband Bob of Currituck, NC and Bernice Nelson of Shawboro, NC; three grandsons, Jeffrey Nelson, Wilson Gilliam Jr., and Les Gilliam; four great-granddaughters; and four great-grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. A graveside service officiated by Rev.
