Very sorry for your loss. I knew both Jerry and Marylee growing up in Norwalk. They lived on Downey-Norwalk rd. My brother was the drummer in the band that practiced in their garage. Marylee and my mother worked together at Rockwell International. They were both very nice people and I was thankful to know them.

Jerry Dano was my cousin. His mother, Marylee (Ryberg) Dano, was my Dad's youngest sister. Marylee grew up in Mellette County, South Dakota on the family farm and graduated from White River High School. She married Burt Dano, who'd also grown up on a Mellette County farm and graduated from WRHS. Burt entered the service after he finished high school, but I don't know which branch or where he served. After he and Marylee were married, they moved to California and were living in the Los Angeles area, where I believe Jerry was born. In the summer of 1961, when Jerry was just short of his 9th birthday, Burt died. Marylee continued to live in Los Angeles. She had a job at Rockwell International, one of the companies that helped build the Space Shuttle. She took night classes to earn a college degree so she could improve her pay grade. A neighbor lady named Virginia took care of Jerry after school. Marylee brought Jerry to South Dakota to visit our farm several times when he was growing up. I remember going to Pierre to meet their plane at the airport. He was a quiet, serious boy with lots of bright, blonde hair. I think he was about twelve years old the last time I saw him. We showed him around the farm, saddled the horse, so he could ride, and took him fishing at our stock dam, but it was hard to keep him entertained because he was used to city living, and he was five years older than me. We didn't have much in common. As a young man, Jerry entered the Navy, and made a career of it. I suppose his career took him many places around the world. I know Marylee was proud of his accomplishments, but she also missed him when he was at sea for long periods. Jerry was married for a time and had a son, who Marylee adored. Marylee died at her home in Downey-Norwalk in the fall of 1993. Mom was in contact with Jerry around that time and knew that he was planning to retire to Virginia Beach, but she hadn't heard from him in years. 
These are my memories of Jerry. I pray he's found a peaceful rest.
