Joe Andrew Daniels, 86, passed away on September 28, 2021 due to complications of Alzheimer’s. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at A. G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
Joe was born on a farm in the Reamsville community north of Smith Center, Kansas to the late John A. and Lizzie (Martin) Daniels. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954, serving his country as an Intelligence Specialist for 20 years, including a tour in Vietnam; he retired as a MSgt (E-7). He then worked for the Federal Government, starting in the IRS, then in the U.S. Customs Service with the Office of Intelligence from 1975 until retiring in 1992.
Joe was known for his sense of humor, hard work, kind heart and honesty. His love and support of his family was deep – including donating one of his kidneys to his son. Throughout his life, he greatly enjoyed woodworking, anything to do with cars (fixing them and watching car races), reading books (mainly sci-fi), and, of course, his wife’s superb cooking, especially her chocolate cake. Joe was a loving husband, father and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Hildegard Daniels; daughter Sandy L. Daniels; and daughter-in-law Sandra Daniels. He was predeceased by his son John “Jack” A. Daniels; brother George Daniels; and sister Marian Montee.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
