

John Parker Winner III, "Jack" and "Grandpa", 71, died Feb. 22, 2016. Born in Cumberland MD, Jack was the son of the late John P. Winner II and Angela Spriggs Winner. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister Nancy W. Seymour and his beloved Aunt, Sister Blanche Spriggs. Jack grew up in Hopewell, VA and was a 1963 graduate of Prince George H.S. He attended Richard Bland College and was a Vietnam era U.S. Air Force veteran. After leaving the Air Force in 1970, Jack went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller, first in Roanoke, VA then settling in Norfolk, VA in 1975. After his career with the FAA Jack worked in civil service for the Navy as a Computer Specialist. Jack was an outdoors enthusiast and enjoyed hiking, fishing, and skiing as his favored activities.
His survivors, all of Virginia Beach, include his wife of 46 years Jamie Bane Winner; daughter Christine M. Winner; two sons Michael John Winner (Robin) and David A. Winner (Catherine); two grandchildren Danielle and Luke Winner; one brother Joseph Winner Sr. (Donna) of Hopewell, VA; and one sister Susanne McDonald of St. Pete Beach, FL.
Family will receive friends at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel on Friday, Feb. 26, 2016 from 6-8pm. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016 at 1pm with a pre-mass viewing from 12-1pm at the Church of the Ascension. A reception will follow at the church. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities or the Ursaline Sisters of Louisville, KY.
