

Joyce W. Evans, 93, went peacefully home to be with the Lord on December 4, 2025. Joyce was the daughter of Luther Thomas Winborne and Luvenia Winborne, born and raised in rural eastern North Carolina. She was a longtime resident of Virginia Beach, VA.
Joyce graduated from DePaul Hospital School of Nursing as a RN nurse and practiced nursing for over 40 years in both hospitals and nursing facilities. She had lifelong friendships with her classmates.
Joyce also loved to travel with family and friends. Her travels included the World's Fair in New York and Montreal, the Superbowl in Miami, the Rose Parade and Bowl, the Kentucky Derby and Belmont races, Mount Rushmore, several Presidential Inaugurations, many U.S. states, Europe, and cruises to the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Mediterranean.
She was a baptized believer in Jesus Christ, serving different churches through multiple moves over the years. She last attended Kempsville Baptist Church. She loved her family most of all and especially enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elisha Jackson Evans, Jr. who she was married to for 61 years. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Brenda Rouleau (Michael) and her son, Elisha J Evans Ill, her grandsons, Daniel Rouleau (Megan) and David Rouleau (Carli) and six great grandchildren.
The family thanks the compassionate staff at Westminster Canterbury for their dedicated care during Joyce's final days.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025 from 2 to 4 pm. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
