Matthew Lee Whitney

Matthew Lee Whitney, 28, son of Lee & Sheryl Whitney died October 21, 2012. He is cherished especially by Caitlyn Colfels his longtime girlfriend and assumed fiancée. Paternal grandparents: Richard and Diane Bentkowski of Kenosha, Wisconsin. From Kenosha, Wisconsin: Michael, Anthony, Freya, Summer, Anthony Jr., and Katie Bentkowski along with Jessica Blake. Deb, Bill, Bridgette, Emma and Conner Feeney of Monroe, Connecticut. Jennifer and Chris Mullen of Norwalk, Connecticut. Chris Whitney of Manhattan, New York. Lyn Whitney of Norwalk, Connecticut. Jeff Cason, a longtime friend, and his beloved best friend, “Champ.”

Matthew was an employee of the Naval Shipyard. He was a graduate of Salem High School with computer science, automotive technician, and aviator technician training. He had a lot of knowledge under his 28 years of living. His hobbies were his dog-Boxer and best friend “Champ,” working out, doing charitable things for people and basically being there for whomever needed him. For some of us, he had the nickname of “Mr. Food,” the never-ending food consumer. For some, “Mr. Gummy,” for others many other names but for me, his mother, he was the greatest gift a mother could ever ask for.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Church of the Ascension Catholic Church 4853 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. A prior visitation will be from 9am-10:45am at Ascension as well.
