Nancy Holmes Taylor of Virginia Beach, VA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Nancy was born in Suffolk, VA on May 21, 1954. Her family left Suffolk in 1961 and moved to Virginia Beach where she resided until 1974.
Nancy graduated from First Colonial High School in 1972 and chose to travel after losing her dad, Charles William “Buck” Taylor before continuing her education. She traveled across the US by car, working odd jobs and sight-seeing with her best friend, Becky. When she returned home, she joined her stepdad and began working as a low level programmer for the government.
She returned to school to get her degree by attending night classes. In 1996, she was inducted into Delta Epsilon Sigma National Honor Society and in the summer of 1997 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Information Systems, Cum Laude from Saint Leo College.
Nancy continued to work as a programmer/analyst throughout her career. She worked numerous jobs in Virginia until her retirement from CACI in 2012.
Nancy’s joys included spending time with her friends and family. She loved getting her nails done. She had a standing appointment with her best friend Joy, for years. They were so pretty and long, people thought they were acrylic. She enjoyed travel, cruises and spending time at her timeshare in FLA. Nancy loved to read. She enjoyed all genres and was seldom without a book, sometimes reading two at the same time. Her house had two rooms with nothing but bookcases filled with books. If you ever needed something to read, you could find it there. She had a massive turtle collection. It started as a couple of gifts and grew to over 500 turtles to include necklaces, pictures, rings, bracelets, earrings and turtles made of every material you could imagine from rocks to stones from all over the world.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles William Taylor II and Lucy Vaughan Taylor Redick. Left to cherish her memories is her step dad, Jack H. Redick; her brothers: Charles William Taylor III and Kip Hamilton Redick and wife Sarah; and sisters: Sarah Jean Taylor and Kim Redick Forrest and husband Mark.
