On November 30, 2021, the Lord called William to his Heavenly home. He was born in Norfolk, VA to the late William Whitmore Sr. and Mary Whitmore. William was a loving, hilarious, joyful, and faithful servant of God. He sought daily to glorify the Lord, finding every moment to witness His love.
William was a dedicated member and former Deacon of Virginia Beach Beacon Baptist Church.
He actively sought to teach God’s word by leading Sunday School classes and joyfully serving
members of the church. An active daily walk with God and the church were very important to
William. He was also an ordained minister, and proudly officiated the wedding ceremony for two
of his daughters.
William was a proud and dedicated ABU brother serving as a weapons specialist in the 101st
Airborne Division in the Army. He received 3 Bronze stars, 2 with valor, for his service in
Vietnam. William was always proud to share his testimony of divine intervention and the power
of God, and had the privilege of sharing this story in A Battalion Of Angels by Mike Burns.
William was a Mason for 48 years and a member of Kempsville Lodge.
William is survived by 4 loving children, a loving step-son, a brother, 7 grandchildren that adored
their Grandaddy, 7 nieces and nephews, and countless friends he considered family.
William was predeceased by his bride of 21 years and love of his life, Cheryl Brisbois Whitmore.
A funeral service will be held at 9:00 AM on Tuesday December 14, 2021, at Virginia Beach
Beacon Baptist Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at A. G.
Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. You may offer condolences at
www.smithandwilliamsfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers the family would request a
contribution to the Cancer Care Foundation of Tidewater; or, if you are able, donate blood in
order to help sustain someone else’s life.
