Jackie Meadville has gone to heaven and is back in the arms of her adoring husband, Bill. They met when Bill was a young Army Air Corps officer visiting The Visalia First Baptist Church and he asked a greeter who that beautiful girl was singing in the choir. The greeter was May Easley and the girl was her daughter. She asked him home for dinner and as the story goes, he never left. They were engaged when Jackie was 17 and married when she turned 19. Bill died suddenly in 1994, the year they would have celebrated their 50th anniversary.
Jackie was a dutiful military wife, moving almost every year. In the early fifties, when stationed at SAC AFB in Omaha, Nebraska, Jackie was instrumental in the creation of “ The Dependents Assistance Organization” for Air Force families, which survives today.
Their last AF station was in Honolulu where Bill was in charge of the AF ROTC at the U of H. They retired to Menlo Park, California near Stanford University where Bill went into business with one of his former professors and formed a land investment corporation in Las Vegas with him as well.
In the Bay area they had many dear friends, played bridge, Bill played golf, and were major supporters of Stanford Football. Jackie joined several women’s charitable organizations and often served as President, while helping raise funds for children and the poor. They were members of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, which they truly loved.
In 1993 they built a home at The Lakes and moved to Visalia. Bill died the next year, but Jackieactive and continued her love of entertaining. She always had a big Christmas party at VCC. It was an elegant event with an eclectic mix of friends, neighbors, and business associates. Jackie was an avid reader, reading 3 newspapers daily and countless best sellers and mysteries. She looked forward to her birthday trips to Reno every year to go gambling with her daughters. She was preceded in death by her uncle, Beryl Flowers, who was raised like her brother and who died in WWII; her father, Noah Easley; her mother May Easley Light; her beloved husband, Dr. H. William Meadville; her wonderful sons-in-law, Vit Eckersdorf of Atherton and Gary Schwing of Texas.
Jackie is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Schwing of Sugar Land, Texas; her daughter Anne Eckersdorf of Atherton, CA and Anne’s sons Steven and Tim Moran and their families, all of the Bay area. She is also survived by many dear friends and especially Vince Peters of Visalia, whom she though of as a son.
The family would like to thank Comfort Keepers for providing such personal and loving service over the last difficult years, giving her 24 hour care, companionship, and protection and providing us with comfort, knowing they were there. Special thanks to Steve Simmons, Lua Woffinden, and recently Mia Nai for all their kindness and love. They have been a gift to all of us and we couldn’t have gotten through the past years without the services they have provided.
