

Dorothy Elizabeth Duncan Hart, passed away January 31, 2016, in Visalia, California. She was born August 2, 1923 in Whigham, Georgia – the first child of Wylie and Pearl Gainous Duncan. Dorothy was an excellent student, a member of the Beta Club, and played the part of Mrs. Matilda Blackburn in the high school’s production of “MAMA’S BABY BOY” in her senior year. Graduating in May, 1940 she continued her education by correspondence until she was able to go to Tampa, Florida for business school. Upon graduation she took a position with the U.S. government in Washington D.C., where she met and married Orvral Carl Hart from Taft and Bass Lake, California.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband and brothers: Jack, Sherwood, Archie, Glynn, and Burton. She is survived by her sister, Betty, and her youngest brother . Spencer, both of whom live in Georgia, as well as two daughters, Marian “Susie” Parker and Carol Maranian, both of Visalia; two grandchildren, Carl MacRae of Visalia and Gina Wise of Exeter, California and four great grandchildren. She is a member of
First Presbyterian Church in Visalia and a former member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Sierra Vista Methodist Church in Fresno, California.
Dorothy was an avid reader, loved crocheting and working crossword puzzles. She worked for the Law Library, Fireman’s Fund Insurance and Hartford Insurance, all in Fresno, California. She moved to Visalia in 2000 to be closer to her family.
Graveside services will be held for Dorothy on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 2:30 PM, at Belmont Memorial Park in Fresno where she will be buried with her husband.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 215 N. Locust, Visalia, California 93291, noting that they are in memory of Dorothy Hart.
