
Joseph Sidney Nix
August 14, 1923- September 26, 2010
Joseph Sidney Nix was born in Pike County Kentucky on August 14, 1923 to James and Mollie Nix. “Mr. Joe or Sid” as he was commonly called in his later years went in to the Army at the age of 15, however he told them he was eighteen and says he handed the sergeant a letter and the excepted him. There he spent the next 8 years as a driver in the Army and after honorable discharge he resigned into the Air force for the next 13 years. Joe was proud to be a veteran and was actively involved in the VFW in Mobile and always wore his VFW pins signifying this. After he retired Joe tried several different types of work and eventually settled on a security guard position with Vinson Guard Company. He was known as the friendly guy and always quick to lend a helping hand.
Joe had a special place where he went daily for breakfast and lunch after he lost his wife Mollie. This was a local restaurant and known as the “Tiny Dinner” where he had a many wonderful friends there that kept him busy in the community. He spent his years post military in Mobile, Alabama and attended church at Pleasant Valley United Methodist where he was a deacon for many years.
Joe moved to California to be near his son James in February 2007 as he was aging and lonely for family. There he spent his remaining years until his death on September 26, 2010 where he passed away peacefully in his sleep.
He is survived by his sons John Michael, Joseph Sidney Jr. James Mack, and daughter Theresa Moore. He has eight grandchildren and many great grandchildren throughout the country.
