Lois was born on November 19, 1929, to Tom and Ruth Hammond of Corcoran, California. She was joined later, by her sister, Verdell, and her brother, Herb. Lois attended Corcoran schools, graduating from Corcoran High School in 1947. She accepted Christ at an early age, attending church where her grandfather served as pastor.
Previously married to Wes Hansen of Corcoran, they had three children, Susan, Bob, and Tom. She raised her children in Corcoran, then later in Visalia where her family moved.
Lois enjoyed taking her children to the family cabin in Bass Lake. They would head up to the lake, the day after school was out, returning home just before the next school year would begin. At Bass Lake, she was the official boat driver while Susan, Bob, and Tom water-skied all day long. Lois also enjoyed swimming and sunbathing at the wonderful times spent at the lake. Another place she frequented with friends was Laguna Beach where she had fun, relaxing times.
At a later age, Lois took up golf and snow skiing, performing quite well in both sports. An avid sports follower, Lois faithfully watched all sports, always cheering for her favorite teams, the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers. She also enjoyed horse racing at the Del Mar and Santa Anita racetracks.
Lois, along with her daughter, Susan, took up knitting, and joined knitting clubs. Beautifully knitted sweaters, scarves, and shawls were among the many items she knitted, and gave as gifts to both family and friends.
Lois spent many years volunteering at Kaweah Hospital, where she distributed reading materials to patients. Using her knitting talents, she knitted many newborn baby caps, and baby blankets for the Kaweah Health Hospital Guild.
Many family memories were made over her 95 years of life. Lois loved gathering at holiday functions and family events with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly, and was so very proud of.
Lois is survived by her sons, Bob (Janet) Hansen, and Tom (Toni) Hansen, her 7 grandchildren (Dax, Tara, Haylee, Marissa, Louis, Kelli, Erin), 15 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Verdell Broadwell. Lois was preceded in death, by her daughter Susan Pace, her son-in-law Jerry Pace, and her brother Herb Hammond.
Private graveside services will be held in Visalia. A heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate and dedicated care that the staff of Glory Days Assisted Living in Visalia provided to Lois. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Quality Life Hospice, in special thanks for the care of service to Lois.
