Refugio Gallegos

Refugio “Cuco” Gallegos, 88, passed away in Visalia, CA, on May 11, 2026. He was born to Albundio and Andrea Gallegos on May 2, 1938, in Villadama Nuevo León. He was blessed with two siblings, an older brother Juan Elpio and his younger sister Emma. Refugio grew up in Nuevo laredo Tamaulipas Mexico. When he turned 16 years old he made the courageous decision to travel the country to harvest. He has seen many beautiful places such as; Delaware, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota. In 1956, he planted himself in Visalia, CA. Here, he worked at JD Martin ranch, also known as, Rancho Blanco. In 1960, he met the love of his life, Mary Hernandez and they soon got married. As time went on, God blessed Cuco and Mary with a son named Refugio “Cookie” Gallegos. While creating their life they made the most of it by traveling and going out dancing. They loved spending time his brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces, and nephews whom he held close to his heart. In 1988 he gained a daughter in law, Cindy and later in life gained two grandchildren, Mike and Breanna, who he loved dearly. Refugio was a strong, smart, and reserved man, who was very resilient with everything he did. He was very proud with where he came from and everything he created. Cuco was an honorable husband who loved his wife fiercely. A strong dependable father to his son, and always showed up for him in every shape and form. He was a loving and devoted grandfather to his two grandchildren and was always there for every milestone. He was a dependable person who never judged and loved unconditionally. He never once lived life in regret, because he lived every moment to it's fullest potential. He will be missed by many people from all over the country, and his name will remain alive through all of us. 

Refugio “Cuco” Gallegos was survived by his family, Mary, Refugio “Cookie”, Cindy, Mike, Kristen, and Breanna.
