Wijnanda(den Hoed ) Ver Steeg, age 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at 10:34 pm on Tuesday, Sept 28, at her residence at Twin Oaks in Tulare, Ca. She left this world, ready to meet her Lord, and join her husband Nick, and son Kevin, after suffering from several ailments that contributed to her passing.
Nanda was born on March 29, 1941, in Dubbledam, the Netherlands to Aart den Hoed, and Maria Noorlander the 4th of 15 children, 9 of them being born in the Netherlands. In 1947, her family immigrated to the United States via Hoboka,New Jersey, then on to New York. After the 3 week-long trip, eating mostly mac and cheese, her family started their American lives working for a relative. After multiple moves including Washington, Michigan, and a few other states, she ended up in Iowa where she met her husband Nick Ver Steeg and was married on April 5, 1963. Together, moving multiple times thru out Iowa and Minnesota, they raised 5 kids, 4 boys and 1 girl before moving to California, where they settled in the Visalia area where they continued their family journey while adding 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Throughout their journey, they remained faithful to God, and were a wonderful example of Christian marriage, even in their final years, bringing church services to the nursing home. Nanda worked as a homemaker and a nurse's aide. in her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and crafting. Even teaching sewing, and fabric classes for young kids, which she continued for many years, reaching out to a lot of kids, teaching them to sew. She loved her Dutch heritage, and her home was full of many dutch items, and usually had the dutch kissing kids, and a windmill outside that Nick would make for her. She loved family, immediate, and distant and looked forward to visiting them or calling them, often speaking for hours "catching up". These visits were very much a highlight for her and especially became important during the last few years when visiting was dramatically cut down. But the special place in her heart was saved for her grandkids and great-grandkids, whose pictures were spread all thru her home, and often the topic of conversation for her. She never knew a stranger and would love to sit on her porch and talk to whoever would come along.
She is preceded in death by her husband Nick, her son Kevin, son-in-law Alex, her parents Aart and Maria, her two younger brothers Adrian, and Leo.
She is survived by her children; Nik(Kathryn)Ut, Nancy CA, Ken(Tami) Ca, Rodney(Donja) In, daughter-in-law Patti, grandchildren; River, Joshua(Noemi), Madison(Adam), Nikolas, Krystal(Jeff), Meagan(Chris), Matt(Faye), Heidi(Kyle), Victoria, Jordan, Rashelle, and Colton; great-grandchildren Kennedy, Annabel, Addylynn, and Jaxon, her brothers and sisters Corrie, Bill, John, Mina, Aart, Pete, Maria, Arie, Leen, Abram, Walt, and Trudy.
