Alice Riser Estes

COLUMBIA – Funeral services for Alice Riser Estes, 92, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel with entombment in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home chapel. Honorary pallbearers will be her caregivers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Reformation Lutheran Church the Splash Program, 1118 Union Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or PALS with the City of Columbia, #1 Justice Square, Columbia, SC 29203.

Mrs. Estes was born December 19, 1918 in Little Mountain, SC and passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011. She was the daughter of the late John Bunyan Riser and Mary Lowman Riser. She was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church since 1945 and an active member of WELCA. Mrs. Estes was a graduate of Newberry College and was a School Teacher. She was married on July 20, 1945 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Estes is survived by her sons, Billy and wife, June Estes of Irmo, John and wife, Deborah Estes of Snellville, GA; grandchildren, Chris, Laura and Scott Estes; granddaughters and their spouses, Diana and Adam Lighler of Charlotte, NC and Michelle and Jason Mackey of Durant, OK; nephew and wife, Larry and Debbie Estes of West Columbia, SC, Tom and wife, Mary Edwards of Greenville, SC and niece, Rebecca Floor and husband, Doug of Easley, SC and several great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William ‘Bill” J. Estes, Jr. and sister, Sara Riser Morris. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her wonderful caregivers and for their many years of compassionate and loving care.
