It is with much love that the family of Amanda Gaynelle Peterson Ford announces her passing on February 4, 2026, at the age of 100 years while a resident of The Presbyterian Home in Lexington, SC. She had previously lived on “the Avenues” in Cayce, raising 6 children there.
Mrs. Ford was born to Walter and Pauline Peterson in Varnville, SC on September 18, 1925, and spent her childhood in Jasper County until her marriage to Eugene Louis Ford, Sr. in 1944. They would raise their family together until his death in 1999, following 55 years of marriage.
After being a full-time loving mother for years, she enrolled in the Columbia Hospital School of Nursing and completed her dreams of becoming a nurse at the old Columbia Hospital (now Palmetto Richland). She later retired from the SC Health Department after 16 years of service.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother Fredolph Peterson, sister Hilda Douglas, son Conrad Patrick (Spike) Ford, and three grandchildren, Bradley Herring, Mandy Herring and Katie Ford. Left to cherish her memory are her five children Gene Ford (Kaye), Linda Herring (Roger), Susan Sharpe (Rick), Mike Ford (Susan), Cheryl Smith (Rusty) and five grandchildren Tammy Jur (Joe), Darren Ford, Brent Herring (Kelly), Ashley Powell (Keith) and Lindsey Smith (Alex). Also left behind are her 8 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Her legacy is limitless.
She also left a significant legacy of faith, woven through her family and all who knew her. State Street Baptist Church supported this faith journey as she was a member for 65 years. Forever she will be remembered for her devotion and unfailing love to her family. Her faith in Jesus Christ sustained her as she taught not by words but by her steadfast example of perseverance and love.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 1:00 PM, in the Chapel at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home at Southland Memorial Gardens West Columbia. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM.
