

Barbara was born in Charlotte, NC on November 12, 1936 and grew up in Charlotte and Durham, NC then in Columbia, SC. She graduated Ursuline High School in Columbia in 1955.
During and after graduation, Barbara worked at Tapps Department Store, then spent many years as an “at home” mother and homemaker until being hired by the SC State Department of Natural Resources, at which she completed 30 years of employment, retiring in 2007.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Horace V. Pruitt, Sr. and Java Capps Pruitt; her sister, Shirley Pruitt Sullivan and former husband, Dr. Charles V. Crouch. She is survived by four sons and their spouses, Charles W. (Karen), Mark V. (Sandy), Bryan S. (Marilyn) and C. Michael. (Lisa); eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Emilie P. Schanz of Irving, TX and one brother, Horace V. Pruitt, Jr. of West Columbia, SC and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara was a totally devoted mother and grandmother, and her legacy will live on forever in those beautiful families to whom she was “Mom” and “Yia Yia”.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 1st, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Chapel at Southland Memorial Gardens located at 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. Burial will follow service.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the medical staff of NHC of West Columbia and Abbey Road Hospice.
