PELION - Helga Fields, of Pelion, was born in Karlsrhue, Germany. She met and married her husband, Maxie Mckiver Fields, a soldier in the US Army, and then immigrated to the states. She worked at Shakespear, Horseman Doll Co., and Forest Lake Country Club.
Mrs. Fields was a witty woman, who loved flowers, birds, and a variety of collectibles. In her senior years, her favorite pastimes were puzzles, playing rummy, watching Gamecock football, and enjoying her close-knit family.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan, and her husband. She is survived by her sisters, Rita Inga Miller of St. Paul, MN, Irene and Ursula Schumann; brother, Karlheinze Schumann, all in Germany; daughter, Tina Blackwell of Pelion and her fiancé, Marc Mitchell of Aiken; son, Norman Fields of West Columbia and his wife, Velvet; three grandchildren, Michael, Tiffany and Matthew; three step-grandchildren, Alex, Raychel and Meghan; and 6 great grandchildren. However, she acted as "Oma" to many more beloved little ones through her life. She leaves a legacy of love, laughter and generosity behind.
