I am so very sorry for your loss.  John was always such a wonderful person to me over the years; he was a Columbia SC fixture in the musical world, to so many people.  Bobbie and Trip, and the rest of John's family, I will keep you in my prayers.

We have so many good memories of John, especially when he so graciously agreed to do all that he could to restore David's father's fiddle, which he did make look like new, although he recommended that we only use as a display.  It brought back many memories and we were very grateful to John.  He was such a gentle man and will be greatly missed.  Please know that we are holding you in our hearts, thoughts and prayers and we know that God will bring you comfort and peace.

John Futch was a good man, and a good friend. He was one of the first friends I made when I came to Columbia nearly fifty years ago.   He will be missed by many people, including me.

Tripp.....Sorry to hear about your Dad. I always enjoyed going in the store and talking with him and your Mom, and he has been kind to me through the years. I know he is in a better place now and I am sure he has his picking skills reinstated!

John was a great guy.  Bought my first guitar from him 43 years ago.  It is a sad day.  My condolences to his family.

Much of my Love for Music  is Thanks to John.  40+ yrs ago when I had little money, he took my good friend Gary Bruce's word that I'd pay, and trusted me.  As with many others with the same story, he was always more than fair. All these years later, I still play constantly.  And I'm sure John wouldn't have been John without his family.  Thank you John, and Bobbie and Tripp, so very much.

John was a great guy and a wonderful friend to me for well over 40 years beginning with Walt's store in the 60's.  We had some great times playing our brand of bluegrass that I will always cherish.

Dear Bobbie and Trip,
Jeff and I loved going into the Music Store; John's genial, honest and kind personality made each visit a pleasure. If either of you were in the store, it was a nice bonus. Vaya con Dios.

My condolences to the Futch family. I have fond memories of spending time with John at the several store locations over the years starting with Walt's Columbia Music in Five Points. I hope his store will thrive for many years to come.

I'm sorry for your loss.  John was a very nice man.  I bought my first guitar at The Music Store.  He never seemed annoyed with whatever horrible bits of songs the kids played and was always kind and friendly to us.

I am sorry to hear that you have lost a loved one in death. I have found comfort from reading the scripture in the Bible at Ecclesiastes 9:5,10.

How heartbroken I am. John was one of the few dealers I considered my true friend. For 42 years I called on him. For 42 years I looked forward to seeing his smiling face. What an icon he was!!!
