

Lanell Grubbs Hicks, 88, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026. She was born on July 21, 1937, in Barnwell County, South Carolina, to Rosalee Still Grubbs and Franklin Grubbs.
Rosalee and Franklin tragically passed away when Lanell was three months old. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Rebecca and Callie Still, whom Lanell called Momma and Daddy.
Lanell graduated from Blackville-Hilda High School in 1956, and she graduated from Hamlet School of Nursing in 1963 as a Registered Nurse. Her career as a nurse spanned 53 years.
Over her life, Lanell enjoyed many hobbies including bowling, softball, crocheting, reading, painting, writing, playing cards with family and her friend Grace, and later in life, watching college sports. She especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports. She had a strong faith in the Lord and read her Bible daily.
Lanell is survived by her daughter, Miranda West, “the firstborn,” (outlaw Eric); son, Mark Hicks, “the only son,” (outlaw Kim - affectionately known to Lanell as “the bulldog”); daughter, Judy McGee, “the pet,” (outlaw Randy), and daughter Tammy Lanell Hicks Herring, “the caboose.” Grandchildren: Zachary Hicks (Ellie), Joshua West, Ashlyn Cann, Alyssa Colley (Justin), Tucker McGee (fiancée Rachel Aiken), Kenzie VanZomeren-West (Victoria), Cooper McGee (fiancée Gray Peery), Laurie Ann McGee, and Mason Herring. Great-grandchildren: Caroline Colley, Ella Colley, Mason Colley, Preston Colley, Averi Cann, Remy Hicks, Charlie Hicks, Bentley Colley, and Walker Hicks. Lanell is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Lanell was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Robert Hicks, and brothers Dewey Grubbs, Bobby Grubbs, Albert Grubbs, and M. C. Grubbs. She is survived by her sisters, Frankie Freeman and Laverne Bruner, her twin.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, 820 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, South Carolina, 29170. A funeral service will occur at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Southland Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a favorite charity of Lanell’s, or another charity of your choice.
