Mr. Shumpert worked for the Columbia Police Department from 1968 – 1993 and retired as a Captain. He served two tours in Vietnam on the USS Conway, a destroyer, and the USS Newport News, a cruiser. He enjoyed NASCAR, Gamecock football, camping and gardening.
Mr. Shumpert is survived by his wife, Cathy Shumpert; sons, Mark Shumpert (Amanda) and Tony Shumpert (Kerri); grandchildren, Abi, Aubrey, Annabel and Katie Grace, and sister, Katie Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2019 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Columbia Police Foundation, c/o CPD, 1 Justice Square, Columbia, SC 29201.
