Norma Jean Williams, 89, went peacefully to be with her beloved Lord on Thursday, July 16, 2020. She was born during the Great Depression on November 28, 1930 in Hurricane, West Virginia to the late Royal S. and Eunice M. Phelps.
Jean (as she liked to be called, Jeanie to her best friend), loved to play bingo and was a huge Atlanta Braves fan. Although she was a strong, independent woman (drove herself wherever she wanted to go until she was 88), Jean lived her life as a gentle giant, with never a harsh word to anybody. She appreciated good food and loved to dine out, especially having fellowship with her church member friends from Kittiwake Baptist Church, of which she was a member.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her daughter, Janice Haltiwanger (Ron) and grandson, Eric Haltiwanger. She was predeceased by her husband, James L. Williams; son, Bradley James Williams; brother, Eddie Phelps and sister, Lorena Phelps Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, with interment to follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kittiwake Baptist Church, 420 Kitti Wake Drive, West Columbia, SC 29170 or at kittiwake.org/online-giving/.
