Zandra touched many lives over the years through different roles working as a carhop, a seamstress, a caregiver in her home as well as a nursing home, a home maker, a piano teacher, and a corrections officer. She was a strong-willed individual who made the best of life’s challenges. She loved the beach, fireworks and funnel cakes, Jesus, bluegrass and Blue Suede Shoes. To make her smile, one needed only to walk into the room with a hot cup of coffee or a plate of fresh brownies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen Edgar and Joyce Brackett Payne of Danville, KY; three older brothers; her oldest son, Stephen Keith George (Rebecca Harrell) of Rexburg, ID and her nephew, John Casey of Russell Springs, KY.
She is survived by her children, Ed George, Becky Galloway and Jeff (Robin) George, all of Lexington, SC; her sisters, Ann (Don) Rosa of Louisville, KY, Sally Payne of Lexington, KY and Kathy (Jerry) Casey of Russell Springs, KY; her grandchildren, Louisa (Joe), Emma, Margaret (Sergio), Henry, Charlie and Elizabeth, Dustin (Kalin) and Devin (Jenna), Andre’, Xavier and Tyson, and Reagan, Kenan and Levi. She was also blessed with two great grandchildren, Liam and Ruby, and two more on the way.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Monday, January 24 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel.
The family wishes to say a special “thank you” to Agape Care for providing hospice care that allowed precious last moments with Mom. Also, thank you to the many friends and family who have reached out and offered prayers and support. Because of the moment that she asked Jesus to become her Lord and Savior more than 15 years ago, we know that we will one day see Mom again.
