Antonio “Tony” Velazquez, Sr, of Marlin, Texas, passed away on February 17, 2021, at the age of 70, in Waco, Texas. His battle with a serious medical issue in recent months showed his courage and faith in facing life challenges with a constant smile, despite the pain, Tony stayed strong until the end.
Tony was born to Fausto Jaramillo and Ignacia Arellano, in Mexico. At the young age of 14 he came to America and became a citizen. Tony never met a stranger. Everyone he met would instantly be called his longtime friend. He would always make sure no one would leave his home hungry. He loved cooking and making sure everyone had plenty to eat. He worked many years at the Onion Ring Plant in Marlin, and later retired from Falls County Road and Bridge. Unable to sit still he went back to work at Sanderson Farm until 2020. Six short years ago he met the love of his life Nancy “Baby Nancy” Nutt. Together they blended a family full of love and laughter.
Tony is survived by his wife of 6 years; Nancy Nutt of Marlin, Texas, two sons; Antonio “Tito” Velazquez Jr and wife, Cerina Tubbs of Marlin, Texas and Irving Velazquez of Marlin, Texas, eight “daddy’s girls”; Timothy Anne Velasquez and husband, Andrew Black, Jr. of Waco, Texas, Arminda Velazquez and husband, Christian Constant, of Marlin, Texas, Veronica Cardoza and husband, Brandon, of Temple, Texas, Berenice Escobedo and husband, Fernando, of Teague, Texas, Alisha Young and husband, Vince, Mandy Seals and husband Danny, Kayla Nutt and April Nutt, all of Marlin, Texas. Tony also leaves behind 29 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters, a brother; Rufino Jaramillo, of Marlin, Texas, and 3 sisters; who adored him, Feliz Mora, Angelita Jaramillo and Rosa Jaramillo, all of Mexico and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, a son; Eric Nutt, a granddaughter; Kimberly Paige Cardoza, and his brother; Jose Jaimes.
Pallbearers will be Jair Cardoza, Dominic Perez, Jordan Venegas, Antonio (Tito) Velazquez, Jr, Fernando Escobedo and Brandon Cardoza.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM with Rosary at 7:00 PM, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors, 4400 W. Waco Dr., Waco, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 PM, Friday, February 26, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2621 Bagby Ave., Waco, Texas with Father Benjie as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin, Texas. For those wanting to bring a dish and join the family they will be at the Marlin Volunteer Fire Department for dinner immediately following burial.
