The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hewitt, Texas. Visitation will be prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Graveside service, which will include military honors, will follow at the Riesel Cemetery in Riesel, Texas.
Fred was born and raised on the Bohne farm in Riesel, Texas. The Bohne family essentially lived off the land and had many friends in the small German community. The farm life naturally required great strength and endurance every day of the year. From this upbringing, he learned the importance of being a part of a strong community and belonging to a solid church. His entire life mirrored the unbeatable work ethic and spiritual strength and courage that he learned from his youth.
After graduating from Riesel High School, Fred worked at Clement Grain Company for several years as a truck driver and manager.
Fred enlisted in the army and served on the front lines in the Korean War as a sergeant in charge of mortars in the snow-filled mountains. He did not speak of this often. This was a tough time, watching friends and those has in charge of suffer severe injuries or die, and having to daily trudge on foot through the snow for miles, wearing the same pair of socks which they dried out each night only to put them on the next day, and then do it all over again.
Returning from the war, he returned to work at Clement Grain company, and moved back to the farm to help his parents, not only with his labor, but supplementing financially as he was able. During this time, he met Frankie Cluck, and they were married on November 23, 1959. They had one daughter, Teresa, in 1964, and gave her all that they could give her their entire lives. While living in Riesel, they started Bohne Real Estate together after Fred obtained his Real Estate Broker’s License. After the real estate business, Fred became a Manager at Reebok in Waco, where he worked until he was able to retire, debt-free. He remained married to Frankie until her death on March 4, 2012.
Following Frankie’s death, he joined Peace Lutheran Church in Hewitt, Texas, right down the street. This became the focal point of his life. He became a very devoted member, attending their Grief Share Group and then proceeding to be a leader of the group until his stroke in 2017. The stroke affected his life dramatically, ultimately paralyzing his left side. But he never quit. He never gave up on himself. Or on God. He was so strong. He did not know how to be weak. That was just not in his vocabulary.
He leaves behind a large empty wake, but also a strong legacy of what faith, strength and courage can do. We were fortunate to have him for the time that we did. He left the world in a better place than he found it, everywhere he went. To him, God is definitely saying, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Bohne (Huddleston), her son, Michael Frederick Huddleston her daughter, Willow Huddleston, and Michael’s wife, Rebecca Shepard Huddleston. He is also survived by his beloved niece, Pam Davis Chick, and her three boys, Hayden (and his wife Kristin and their two children), Austin (and his wife Mary), and Chandler, as well as many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his wife, Frankie Cluck Bohne, his sister, Mary Ann Bohne Davis, his former son-in-law of many years who he loved like a son, Michael Wallace Huddleston, and his mother and father, Bertha Paula Ida Teichelmann Bohne and Fritz Wilhelm Bohne, Sr.
