Fred D Stengel Jr.

Celebration of Fred’s life will be held 1:00p.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Connally Compton Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial will follow in Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 1, at the funeral home.

Fred was born to Fred D Sr. and Lorena (Wagnon) Stengel in Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1941, Fred joined the United States Army in Camp Bowie, Texas. He married the love of his life Mildred Grizzell in 1942 and after serving in the military he moved to Waco. Fred joined the Waco Police Department and retired after 30 plus years of service. Some of his hobbies included fishing, woodwork and gardening. Fred was a longtime member of the New Road Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mildred, three children, his brother and one granddaughter.

Survivors include his children Berton Stengel and wife Jean, of Eddy, and Rose Marie Bryson, of Waco; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Catherine’s for their love and care of Fred these past few years.
