

With grateful hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother,“Ahma” and Aunty, Florence Leialoha Keala. On February 4, 2024, atthe age of 86, Florence departed from this world, surrounded by herloving family.
She was born on Kawaihae Beach on February 22, 1937 to Andrew andLaura (Aurora) Lorenzo. She graduated from Honokaa High School andwent on to receive degrees from Church College of Hawaii and BrighamYoung University.
Florence spent 56 years as an educator teaching elementary school,language, and music as well as overseeing the Hawaiian StudiesKupuna Program. She improved the lives of disadvantaged andhomeless children as the Director of the Punawai Program for QueenLiliuokalani Center.
She received many awards and honors during her exceptional life suchas Princess of Maui in 1972, the University Extension Governor’s LadyAward, Teacher of the Year, and Native Hawaiian Educator of the Yearalong with her husband David.
Florence did it all. She loved to cook, sew, weave, craft, dance, playgames, and travel the world. She developed books on cooking, ukulele,quilting, and children’s Hawaiian stories. She loved being a part of hercommunity and spending time with her dear friends.She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daySaints and served in the Sunday School, Primary, Young Women andRelief Society. Florence served a full-time mission to the Utah Salt LakeHeadquarters Mission.
Hand in hand with our mother’s dedication to God was her love anddedication to her family. She was married and sealed in the Laie HawaiiTemple to her husband, David Kaaa Keala. Florence is survived by hersister-in-law Jane (Andrew) Kamauoha and by her beloved childrenDavid Kaluna Keala II (Tanya/Suzanne), Darren Keala, Kaulana(Andrew) Iokia, Keola (Aisha) Keala, along with Adrienne Kawano,Craig (Mary Ann) Chaves, Dave (Terri) Kiyojima, and Bronwen Miranda.Ahma’s legacy continues in the lives of her 17 grandchildren whom sheloved and adored: Lei (Todd), Kehau (Tali), Lani (Sheldon), Ui (Misiona),Kaluna, Kekai, Keao, Kalama, Cullen (Sandy), Ciara (Mikol), Chelsey,Brad, Bryan, Bailee, Quinn-Ci, Brennan and Braxtin, as well as 16great-grandchildren: Kaika, Kaili, Kody, Khloe, Anuhea, Nalei, Alohi, Ali’i,Kahi, Anela, Manaia, Hoku, Lai, Kahiki, Tannie, and Luna, with more tocome in the future. All of us blessed to be her family will cherish hermemory and all the ways she has blessed our lives forever.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Florence Leialoha Keala willbe held on Saturday, March 2nd at Maui Lani LDS Chapel.
