

Born in Hanover, New Hampshire, on December 12, 1939, she was the youngest of three children of Dr. James E. Cavanagh, an OB-GYN and his wife Marjorie L. (Carroll). She was the niece of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell F. Brooks, Sr. of Honolulu, Hawaii.
Julie graduated from Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachusetts and Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont, with a concentration in literature. She spent her junior year abroad at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. She later earned a master’s degree in French at the University of Hawaii. Julie went on to teach at Kamehameha School, Kapalama Campus.
Julie was a lifelong lover of poetry, art history, rabbits, and Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals. She also curated French slides for the art history department in the Amherst College Library, Amherst, Massachusetts.
She was a member of the North Congregational Church in Amherst, Massachusetts, where she also volunteered.
Julie and her husband Keith enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, especially skiing in Switzerland and Austria. She looked forward to returning to Hawaii often to visit family and eat her favorite plate lunches.
Julie leaves her husband Keith of 58 years, two daughters, Carroll H. Kaneta of Kihei, Hawaii and Kaiulani K. Williams of North Stamford, Connecticut, and two granddaughters, Kalia R. Kaneta and Ellis M. Williams.
