Rex H. Basinger Jr., a graduate of Woodward Academy and Vanderbilt University, as well as serving in the US Marine core, lived a full and adventurous life filled with bold careers and deep connections.
As a restaurateur, he ran a Burger King in Alaska serving oil workers, opened Doctor John's restaurant in Rehoboth Beach, Maryland, and operated two popular downtown Washington, D.C., establishments: the Reading Gaol and Lord Jim's.
In D.C., he met and married Alexa Christine Betts, the light of his life. They later settled in her childhood home of Maui, where Rex thrived in sales, building a loyal customer base through work and forging many cherished friendships during his free time.
An avid sailor and motorcyclist, he loved riding Maui's winds and cruising on his Harley and Triumph.
Rex was predeceased by his beloved wife, Alexa, who passed just three weeks earlier. He is survived by his stepson, Matthew Robinson and his hānai family; the Betts'. His entrepreneurial spirit, love of motor vehicles, and zest for life will be remembered fondly.
