George R. Schwan, 80 of Walbridge, Ohio passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013, surrounded by his family in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. George was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 10, 1932, to parents, Elizabeth and Anton Schwan. He attended St. Leo’s High School in Detroit, Michigan and joined the US Navy after graduation in 1952. In 1994 he retired from the CSX Railroad after 43 years. George was an avid golfer and enjoyed walking 3 miles a day with his buddies at the Woodville Mall and later at the East Community YMCA. He attended Zion Lutheran Church with his family.
Surviving is his loving wife Millicent (Rau) of 56 years; his daughter Phyllis (Scott) Marks; son Kenneth (Connie) Schwan; sisters-in-law Pat (Tom) Penny, Ursula Schwan and Joyce Rau. George is also survived by his grandchildren Amanda (Justin) Rysz, Brittany Marks, Anthony and Dustin Schwan, Gary Dorman and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Katherine, Elizabeth, Gertrude and Eva; brothers Anthony, Michael, Albert and Joseph.
Family and friends may be received at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Walbridge (419-666-3121) on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. The funeral will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 26535 Pemberville Road, Perrysburg, Ohio on Wednesday, July 3 at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at Troy Township Cemetery.
