George Russell Jones

On Friday January 9, 2015 of Accokeek, MD formally of Nanjemoy, MD. Beloved Husband of the late Marcelle P. Jones. Loving Father of Robert E. Jones (Jean) Accokeek, MD and Donald D. Jones (Terrie) Nanjemoy, MD. Grandfather of Thomas Jones Vienna, VA, James Jones(Adele) Greenwood, DE, Michelle Bullard(Paul)Waldorf, MD, Michael Anderson (Janice) Columbia, MD. Great-Grandfather of Delana and Josslyn Bullard Waldorf, MD. Lieutenant Colonel Jones was born in Enterprise, Kansas on 25 January 1919. He was called to service in the Army of the United States under the Selective Service System on 10 June 1943 and was called to active duty on 28 June 1943. He entered the Armed Forces Flight School in June 1943 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant on 20 November 1944. He has served continuously till retirement on 1 July 1964. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 14 June 1961.

During his long and honorable career Lieutenant Colonel Jones has performed the following duties with sound judgment and high professional ability; Squadron Supply Officer, 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron, Weather, McClellan Air Force Base, California; Chief, Procedures and Control Branch, Material, Headquarters Squadron, Keflavik, Iceland; and Supply Staff Officer, Missile and Space Support Branch, Supply Division, Director of Material, Deputy Chief of Staff for Procurement and Material, Headquarters Air Systems Command, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland.

Lieutenant Colonel Jones has been presented the following awards and decorations: American Campaign Medal; World War II Victory Metal; National Defense Service Award; Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters; and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal.

A visitation will be held at the Huntt Funeral Home on Tuesday January 27, 2015 at 10:30am where the service will begin at 12:30pm. Burial to follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Cheltenham, Maryland.
