Michael Francis O'Connell

Michael was born in New York, New York to the late Julia E. (nee Donahue) and Frank A. O'Connell. He earned a BS in Education from Mount St. Mary's College in 1970 and an MA in Education from Bowie State College. He was a long-time educator, first at Walker Mill Middle School in Capitol Heights, MD then at St. Mary of the Assumption School in Upper Marlboro, MD. He was an active choir member at St. Peter's Church in Waldorf, MD. In his retirement he enjoyed working leading tours and providing interpretation at Historic St. Mary's City.

Michael had a passion for history, travel, reading, singing, and spending time with his family. He was known for his quick and sarcastic wit, his immense well of knowledge, and his beautiful voice.

Michael is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judi, daughters Melissa (Sam Liggett) and Kristen, and his granddaughter Lily, brother Timothy (Susan), sisters Eileen (Mark Pendleton) and Kathleen, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 3rd from 4-7pm at Huntt Funeral Home, 3035 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, MD 20601. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, December 4 at 10 am at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 3320 St. Peter's Drive, Waldorf, MD 20601 with a repast to follow.
