Sylvia Martinez

On April 20, 2015, Sylvia Jane Cloud Martinez beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunty, and grandmother passed away at Yakima Regional Hospital and began her journey home to the Creator. Sylvia was born in Wiley City on October 27th, 1942 to Mary (Stahi) and George Cloud and was a member of the Yakama Nation.

Sylvia was an active artist who specialized in beadwork, enjoyed horseback riding, and loved spending time with her family and friends.

She survived by her husband, Bennie Martinez Jr. of Wapato, WA; sons, George Martinez (Sherry Newman) of White Swan, William Martinez (Julia Miller) of Wapato, and Alex James; nine grandchildren; sisters, Sharon Cloud of Lyle, WA, Sylola Cloud-Leslie (Ervin Leslie) of Wishram, WA; and brother, Mike Cloud (Karen) of Lyle, WA.

She is preceded in death by her father, George Cloud Sr.; her mother Mary Stahi Cloud; her brothers Russell Cloud, George Cloud Jr.; Willard Cloud Sr.; her sisters, Esther Cloud Wilkenson, Delores Spino, and Martha Sconawah; and her son Christopher Martinez.

A Dressing Service was held for Sylvia at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 with the Overnight Services following at the family home. Sylvia journeyed home to her final resting place at the Lyle Cemetery at sunrise on Thursday, April 23, 2015. Merritt Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
