Alden James Haigh

Alden is the beloved husband of 64 years to Ellen Haigh. Loving father of Lauren (Paul) Bounker and Marilyn (Donald) Horn. Cherished grandfather of Alan Horn, Kristine Horn, and Kyle (Samantha) Horn. Preceded in death by his siblings Jane (the late Nelson) Gagnon, Donald (the late Joyce) Haigh and in-laws Carolyn Jamieson, Irene Harthun ( the late Bob) and James Janashek ( the late Leona).

Alden grew up on Barrington Road in Grosse Pointe Park. Following graduation from Grosse Point High he worked as an oiler on the Great Lakes. He then served in the Air Force stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. Following his honorable discharge, Alden attended Wayne State University where he encountered his future bride, Ellen Janashek. They wed on April 26, 1958 and welcomed their daughters Lauren and Marilyn in 1959 and 1960. Their first home was in Detroit and they later moved to Warren in 1964 where they have remained. Alden started his Chrysler career as a draftsman in 1959 at Mopar in Centerline. He retired as a Material Handling Engineer in 1989.

He was a devoted family man and husband. He attended every music concert, dance recital, sporting event and graduation cheering on his children and grandchildren. He was a caring brother-in-law to Carolyn and a special Uncle to nieces and nephews, he was Uncle Al the kiddies pal.

Alden was an avid outdoorsman and shared his love for fishing and hunting with his buddies and family. He also enjoyed curling, playing tennis and traveling. Alden was a member of the Detroit Curling Club, Peachtree and Wimbeldon Racquet Clubs and the Nomads Travel Club. He was a life-long member of Peace Lutheran Church and served as a Trustee.

He was a wonderful man always welcoming people with a big smile, handshake and kind words. He was truly loved and will forever be in our hearts.

A visitation for Alden will be held Sunday, August 28, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Rd, Warren, Michigan 48088. An instate will occur Monday, August 29, 2022 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service 11 AM, at Peace Lutheran Church, 11701 Twelve Mile Road, Warren, Michigan 48093. All are invited to join the family for lunch following the service at the Gazebo ( 31104 Mound Rd, Warren, MI 48092)
