Anita Charbeneau

Born in Detroit the late John and Marion Steifer, Anita was the matriarch of her family. At the time of her passing, Anita and her husband Ed had been married 25 years. Anita loved to give Ed a hard time, but she always knew he would do anything to make her happy. Their life together was a whirlwind of different road trips across the United States and travels around the world. A spitfire with a larger than life personality, Anita could always find some kind of trouble to get herself into wherever they went. Longtime supporter of the Detroit Highwaymen, Anita often came along wherever the club took Ed. Sometimes if he was starting to annoy her, she would threaten to leave him in whatever state they were in at any given one time. One time she actually did leave him and when he called asking her where she had gone, she told him to get a ride from his one of his friends back to Michigan. When she was at home, Anita worked at the Waldenburg Bar in Macomb for 16 years as a bartender. All of the regulars knew her by name and were dear friends over the years.

When Ed and Anita blended their families, it was as if they were meant to be together all the along. Anita and Ed made sure to teach their kids the importance of enjoying their lives in the moment and took and any chance they had to have fun as a family. One of their favorite family vacations when the kids were younger was when they all went to Jamaica. As their kids went on to have kids of their own, it became a tradition for Anita to give all of their grandchildren their first sip of Pepsi. In 2021, family and friends came together for Ed and Anita to have a renewal of their vows. It was both a celebration of the life they had to built together, and of choosing to enjoy the good times in spite of the health challenges Anita faced through the years. Ed and Anita recently took one last big vacation together to Florida. Before they left for the trip, Anita and Ed made a promise that they would choose to put behind them the struggles they had been facing and have a good time no matter what. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all, Anita will be missed dearly by all who survive her.

Cherished grandma of 20 with one on the way. Proud great-grandma of 4. Dear sister of Patricia (Michael) Blakely, Frances Brink, Kelley (Gerry) McCloskey, and the late John (the late Linda) Steifer. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Anita will be held Monday, July 29th from 2pm until 8pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Rd, Warren, Michigan 48088. Visitation Tuesday, July 30th from 9am until time of funeral service at 10am at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Rd, Warren, Michigan 48088. Burial to take place at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Twp, MI.
